The Family Smoking Prevention And Tobacco Control Act: What Is It?

So you’ve seen that President Obama signed a new law that has to do with tobaco but you haven’t yet figured out exactly what it is or what the impact will be.  In a nutshell here’s what it says.

• Gives the FDA the ability to control the amount of nicotine in tobacco products
• Gives the FDA the ability to ban certain candies that appeal toward children
• Blocks tobacco companies from using terminology such as “light” and “low tar”
• Requires additional graphics/warnings on tobacco packaging

President Obama said, “It is a law that will save American lives.”

Regardless of your politics or if you think government should be involved with this type of legislation it’s certainly something that the quitting community should be aware of.
